Epic Arena
A turn-based tactics game that features easy to learn combat and a casual gameplay. #Turn based tactics #Free to play #Free TBT #TBT #TBS #Tactics
Turn-based tactics games along with trading card games have made quite a lot of successful releases in the last few months and Epic Arena felt like another one. It features nice graphics, multiple factions and an easy to pick up and master gameplay. However, it falls short on a lot of things.
Epic Arena is that kind of game that makes a lot more sense when you play it on your tablet. The first hint for that is the graphics. On a large monitor, in fullscreen mode, it looks kind of awkward so window mode is the way to go.
Secondly, is the always present in-game store in which you can pay real money to get additional stuff. In this case, new decks, power cards, avatars and other items. This kind of market is present in nearly all the free-to-play games of this sort or related but in Epic Arena, it’s a bit too much.
Not only do you have a very small number of cards, you can also buy something called a Spyglass that allows you to see the cards in your opponent’s deck. It costs around 5 bucks and you can guarantee it ruins games.
Epic Arena plays as it looks, casually. Each of the three factions has a handful of units which on the plus side are unique and well thought out. To aid them in battle, it’s possible to use a number of power cards that can obliterate an enemy with absolute ease or they can increase the damage and resilience of your fighters. It’s all easy to learn.
The battleground features special tiles that grant characters specific boosts or the ability to teleport. All of this and a few more things make Epic Arena a nice little game that’s worth playing in a casual manner because in terms of tactics and strategy, it’s beneath other free-to-play titles that actually strain your brain during combat.
Epic Arena is risking a lot by letting players engage in multiple simultaneous battles in duel mode. It’s actually not a bad idea to fight several battles at once, but having to wait tens of minutes until your opponent makes a move is terrible. To make things worse, the game doesn't have a built-in messaging system to tell you that it’s rude to keep your opponent waiting for this long.
You do get a single player mode that kind of makes up for the duel bit. However, Epic Arena is far from being epic.
