Elevator Horror

Elevators can be scary enough on their own if the person inside has claustrophobia or an actual fear of elevators. However, there are many gruesome scenarios featured in horror movies that go beyond a simple accident, which include decapitations, explosions and even ghosts. It’s one thing to see such things in movies, but it’s a whole different thing to experience them.

Elevator Horror is a horror game in which you get to be stuck in an elevator and watch all sorts of weird things happen to its electronics. Unfortunately, the experience is very short, but it’s perfect if you want to test your virtual reality gear or show a friend how VR technology works. On top of it all, it also features a few jump scares, which is perfect for beginners.

There’s no plot to pay attention to, since all you need to know is that the elevator’s got a mind of its own, and you have no option but to watch everything unfold in front of your eyes. There’s nothing particularly traumatic at first, but things get out of hand relatively quickly. Not much else can be said without resorting to spoilers, but the experience is certainly worth the effort.

Naturally, it’s quite important that you play the game with a pair of headphones on, because you really need to take advantage of the positional audio implemented by the developer. It’s quite the boring experience with no sound, and a speaker system might not be able to render the appropriate localization, which can again ruin the mood.

As far as the graphics are concerned, everything looks as you would expect from a short game, but the level design is not half-bad. Granted, you only get a glimpse at other rooms, and the objects that appear on the screen do not stay there for very long. The textures and the post-processing effects are pretty well-done, on the other hand.

All things considered, Elevator Horror is a tad too short to be a memorable game, but it can be the perfect way to put your Oculus Rift to the test. You can also scare your friends with it.
