Dogs of War Online

Dogs of War is a turn-based strategy game that pitches three different factions against each other on the battlefield for what else but utter supremacy. It provides both singleplayer and multiplayer modes with the latter being a tad more interesting.

For something that’s free, Dogs of War looks pretty good. It won't astound you with any particular thing but it does well for itself. Like in a lot of free to play titles, it does have a built-in shop from where you can purchase heroes, troops and some cosmetics but the in-game currency drop is fairly decent and you won’t feel the the game fades into the pay to win category.

In terms of gameplay, Dogs of War is a mixture of things which you’ve probably already seen in other TBS titles. You can create your small army with the units you think have the best synergy and once deployed on the battlefield, you will be acting with one at a time, trying to make the best of their individual strengths and abilities.

Combat is somewhere between almost complicated and tedious because while a good deal of emphasis is placed on tactics, the battles themselves tend to get a bit boring. Unit attacks are ok as far as animations go but they have no wow factor… they’re kind of flat.

Dogs of War is not a bad game if you’re to look at it as a whole. Combat is tough enough to challenge those who enjoy strategic battles but some will find setbacks, like the fairly unbalanced chance-to-hit system which at times feels like you’re rolling the dice way too much, obviously not in your favor.

The idea is not bad, but the miss percentage is way too high and that kind of ruins any perfect offensive you might have going for you. So yeah, the game feels somewhat unbalanced and that’s not good since unit variety is not really a feature.

Unfortunately, Dogs of War doesn’t really shine in the TBS department. It’s a good game, there’s no doubt about that but it’s not the kind that you get hooked on, not even mildly.
