Cube MetalHeart

Cube MetalHeart, a kind of Quake III that meets Unreal Tournament (1999) in the sense that it’s fast-paced and with a kill friendly atmosphere. It’s a first-person shooter with a large number of game modes and tons of maps in which teams of two blast each other to smithereens.

Your first encounter with Cube MetalHeart might be a bit messy thanks to the chaos that unravels once you begin to play. For the diehard FPS gamer, the pace at which this one is played will be excellent.

Provided you have a decent number of players on a map, you’ll bump into an enemy or get sniped with a rocket launcher every few seconds. Dullness is but a concept here. The gameplay is wonderfully accelerated and sticks close to the core principles of how a shooter should be, this makes Cube MetalHeart a great choice for old-school players.

For the new generation, the lack of GPU punishing effects and graphics might make it less appealing but giving gameplay a chance is something worth doing. The bit about it being a blend between Quake and UT is very accurate but don’t expect it to come close to either of the two. Cube MetalHeart simply manages to emulate the dynamic gameplay and great atmosphere that the former giants had to offer. And that is a big plus for an online shooter.

Cube MetalHeart throws in a bunch of mods to try out. Apart from the classic free for all and capture the flag you also get regen capture, tactics and efficiency team. Variety is something that this game has when it comes to maps because the list is very long.

What it unfortunately lacks is a thriving community that fills up the servers. Cube MetalHeart is a really good game but popularity isn’t where it gathers its strength. There are a few servers that are almost packed at any given hour and you can very well create your own and have a shootout with friends. Or, you can play against bots and rest assured that if you tell them to, they won’t go easy on you.

This FPS has some issues to figure out and there certainly is room for improvement, there’s no denying it. However, looking at the fact that it’s freeware, taking into consideration that the gameplay runs flawlessly and that the great soundtrack keeps you engaged, Cube MetalHeart is a solid choice for FPS fans.
