Counter Spell

Six unique character classes, plenty of abilities, weapons, items, perks, multiple game modes for both single player and multiplayer, several arenas and the list of what Counter Spell has to offer just keeps going. It’s a game that is very small in stature when compared to other PRGs but it definitely can compete with them in the fun category.

Counter Spell looks great if you’re into Minecraft aesthetics but not so much if high resolution textures and millions of particle effects are your thing. Although, if you draw the line at coherent and fluent combat mechanics, then Counter Spell might surprise you.

The idea is simple, you get to choose from several game modes such as Quest, Adventure, Survival, Deathmatch, Tag and so on, select one of the maps and start the round in either single player or multiplayer. Variety is something you really have in this game despite its small size.

Before you start the game, you can choose your hero class, weather conditions for the map, lighting, score limit, enemy count and more.

When it comes to fights, in single player mode things are rather simple although the randomly spawned minions will kill you more often than you would expect. They seem to be really good at sneaking up on you, some are more powerful, others too agile and they all drop a little bit of loot and experience to reward you for your courage in fighting them.

Counter Spell has a lot of potential when it comes to multiplayer matches. Controls mapping is similar to that of well known MMORPGs and skill and ability combinations can be customized so you can find the best killing combo for your hero class.

A really nice thing about Counter Spell is that in each map you get to pick up several types of items that can be used in different ways to take out your enemies, from wildfire bombs to clever traps, you get a wide arsenal of consumables.

On a closing note, if you’re looking for a simple yet good looking game that offers a true RPG feel and blends in some rogue first person shooter, then Counter Spell is for you. It’s kind of hard to get bored with it after a few hours, especially since it comes with a level editor.
