Flappy Bird was a rather short-lived experiment that took over the mobile world a few years ago, because although almost everyone tried it at one point, the novelty died off pretty fast. The game’s mistake was that it was basically the same thing all over again no matter how long you managed to survive, and the challenge was just not worth it after a while.

Cloney is a jam game that aims to provide everyone with the opportunity to see how annoying the original tapping game was. Hence, you can even enjoy it on the computer, using either your mouse or your keyboard to keep the bird in the air. On the other hand, you are not actually controlling a bird, but some sort of fat dragon with not much experience and a non-aerodynamic body.

The goal is to collect coins and go as far as possible, while avoiding tree branches. In fact, you cannot touch anything but the coins, so you must be tapping at all times in order to survive. As mentioned before, any key on the keyboard will do, or you can even use a mouse or a gamepad to achieve the same results. Whether it’s worth it or not, only you can decide.

Although you are provided with statistics regarding your total completion time, distance and the number coins you have collected, only the latter count toward your final goal. Hence, it doesn’t really matter how far you make it, because the coins are the key to winning a place on the global leaderboard. On the other hand, you’ll have to deal with the annoying level design in order to get to the coins.

The tree branches are usually pretty close to the coins, which means that you’ll often die trying to get them. This is obviously by design, and no one should be complaining about the challenge in this regard, but there are other problems that just fuel your frustration. As an example, the branches can sometimes spawn too close together, which makes it impossible to pass without making a mistake.

In the end, Cloney needs a bit of work before it can become a proper game, because right now it’s just frustrating without a reason. On top of it all, the clone part is pretty accurate, because there are no improvements in any regards over the original.
