Chronicle: RuneScape Legends

RuneScape was one of the most successful MMOs out there, especially when you consider the fact that there are players still enjoying it after all this time. While it never was as complex as modern MMOs such as World of Warcraft or Star Wars Online, it certainly had a certain appeal, not to mention a few traditions that are nowhere to be found in the aforementioned games.

Chronicle: RuneScape Legends looks and talks a lot like a classic Hearthstone clone at a first sight, but it only takes a few minutes of gameplay to realize that nothing’s farther from the truth. As such, while you can still build decks and use cards to defeat your enemy, the way you go about it is very different, especially when it comes to how the matches evolve and what your purpose is during a battle.

To begin with, you have a few legends to choose from, which are actually heroes. These legends must then take on adventures and try to best the opposing force by getting stronger during the quests you assign for them. As such, you do not fight the enemy player or the AI, but yourself, in a weird way. The cards you play are actually obstacles for your heroes to overcome and get stronger.

Instead of placing cards on a table, the adventure takes place in all sorts of magical lands, which makes the experience that much more exciting and engaging. The cards you play turn into creatures, and there are even mini-battles to decide the outcome. Speaking of which, your heroes have to gain buffs, extra damage and all sorts of other bonuses along the way, because at the end of the quest you have to defeat the enemy player in a duel.

It may sound a bit confusing right now, but things are much simpler and a lot more pleasant once you start playing yourself. The core mechanics should be familiar to you if you already are a CCG fan, but the way they are implemented is new and rewarding. However, you can still build decks and use some of your strategies here as well, albeit in a different form and with a different purpose.

All things being equal, Chronicle: RuneScape Legends may not be a world-altering revolution in the industry, but it’s definitely something new and exciting. Thus, if you enjoy CCGs and you do not mind learning a few new things, this could definitely keep you busy for a few hours.
