There are many traditional board games out there, some of which are more popular in some areas around the world. However, they are all designed to get people together and facilitate socializing, although competition is usually part of the fun as well. Before Monopoly and similar modern games came to the public’s attention, people used far more primitive methods to entertain themselves.

Chennemane is a board game that simulates a traditional game from India, in which players have to outsmart each other by capturing as many seeds as they can. The rules are pretty simple, but it can take you a bit of time to get good at it. Even if there are not many variations you can take advantage of, the matches can still evolve in a manner of different ways.

As such, each player has a home base, and there are fourteen holes on the board arranged into two rows. Each hole starts with the same amount of seeds in it, and your goal is to move them around counterclockwise, one by one. However, you cannot simply move all of them to the next adjacent hole. Instead, each individual seed travels one hole further than the last, until there are no more left in the original spot.

In order to score points, you have to gather as many seeds as you can near your home base. The game is played in turns, so each player gets his turn when the other is left without possible moves. The scores are displayed beside your home base, so you’ll always know how many seeds you’ve managed to capture, as well as how many your opponent has.

To ease your job, the game automatically distributes the seeds once you click on the correct hole. This may seem like cheating at first, but it turns out to be quite helpful in the long run. However, the interface is a bit old-fashioned and stiff when compared to what else is there today. On the other hand, the game itself is incredibly simple and straightforward, so it doesn’t need a flashy outfit anyway.

All things considered, Chennemane is not the kind of game you can get hooked on for hours. However, it may be entertaining for those who are familiar with the original board game, especially since it plays almost the same.
