It’s easy to make zombies unlikable, given the fact that they do not display any emotions and are practically walking corpses. Even so, people might get bored of seeing the same villains over and over again, which is why developers are trying to innovate zombie games in a variety of ways. One of these ways is switching roles and letting gamers play the role of the brain eaters for a change.
Brain Guzzler is an arcade game in which you have to consume people and turn them into undead walkers, as well as destroy all sorts of objects that are in your way. The game uses simple Snake mechanics at its core, which means that your job is to keep the zombie train moving without hitting any walls along the way and without eating yourself.
Each mission features a slightly different mission as well, such as destroying a particular object or devouring a huge human that cannot be handled by a single zombie. There are no actual puzzles or difficult sections, but it’s nice to see a bit of variety in an otherwise simple game. Another interesting thing is that each human you eat has a name, which makes it a bit more personal.
Each zombie you have following you at the end of the level can be turned into currency, and you can actually choose whether to take the money or attempt to double it by gambling. The money can then be used to purchase power-ups and upgrades, which come in handy during the difficult missions. Granted, they are a bit pricey in the beginning, but it gets easier to raise money later on.
As for the graphics, the game looks exactly like you would expect it to look, especially when you consider the fact that it was designed to run on mobile devices as well. Hence, the colorful artwork is very basic from a technical point of view, but that doesn’t mean you cannot have fun with it. The controls are actually very smooth on the keyboard, which is not always the case with mobile ports.
All things considered, Brain Guzzler is not exactly a fountain of originality, but it has the right elements to keep you entertained for a few minutes every now and again. Moreover, it’s clearly designed to run smoothly on both PCs and mobile devices.
