Booze is a game engine that can play a number of Chess like games. The current version plays Shogi, Tori Shogi and Mini-Shogi.
Shogi is often referred to as Japanese Chess. It is played on a 9 by 9 board and is famous for it's "drop" rule that allows you to place captured pieces back on the game board.
Tori Shogi (roughly translated: Bird Chess) is a variation of Shogi played on a 7 by 7 board. The pieces are all named after birds and have some fairly odd movement patterns.
Mini Shogi is a variation that is played on a 5 by 5 board. Aside from the size of the board, the rules are the same as regular Shogi.
The game features 3D graphics and a simplified interface. Just right click on any piece if you can't remember what it is. The built-in AI has difficulty levels appropriate for a wide range of players and is under heavy development to increase the playing strength on the higher settings.
