Many jobs have become obsolete over the centuries, and the process is still ongoing, especially nowadays when computers are taking over more and more of our responsibilities. Hence, blacksmiths were essential to every town and village, given the fact that people used steel tools and weapons. However, the trade is no longer relevant, because we have huge robots that can easily create anything out of many types of metal.

Blacksmith Simulator is a very simple game that allows you to experience the joy of working with steel, although it’s worth noting that the mechanics and everything else about the game is as basic as it gets. In fact, it can be quite frustrating to play if you are not in the proper mood to deal with all sorts of annoyances and bugs that hurt the overall experience.

To begin with, the goal is to craft whatever the customer in line desires, but there are only a handful of weapons anyway. Thus, whether it’s a sword or a hammer, your task can be completed in a matter of seconds, which is not that exciting. The process itself is very straightforward as well, because all you have to do is pick up the right components and put them together.

In essence, you start by picking up the steel and putting it into the furnace, where it automatically takes the shape of the item requested by the customer. After that, you have to put in water to cool it down, as well as add a handle or something similar. However, the mechanics are clunky and annoying, especially when you consider the fact that the clipping is awful and the controls are even worse.

The graphics are very basic as well, and although this wouldn’t be a major problem in any other game, they make things even worse in this case. In essence, the lack of environmental detail and textures hurts the experience a lot, and it would be nice to see some improvement in this regard. The sound effects are nothing special either, but that’s the least of the game’s problems.

All things considered, Blacksmith Simulator is actually a very tantalizing concept, but the execution is just not up to standards. Hence, it needs serious work before it can become something worth playing for more than a few minutes.
