Being Her Darkest Friend is a point and click adventure game where the adventure is kind of dark and not for the kids. It features a gloomy and ambiguous atmosphere and a story that unfolds after short sequences of gameplay.
Being Her Darkest Friend features pixel-art graphics that are hand drawn and look rather nice as far as the genre goes. The game is designed to be in tones of grey along with black and white, and at times, it features nuances of color but those are used for accent.
For example, a black and white-with-grey character that has red eyes is a bit creepy. And the effect is amplified when you have to deal with a gigantic demon-line character that has the same construction. In terms of game structure, Being Her Darkest Friend is good and fortunately, it gets better as you play.
Point and click games generally have a knack for making you click all over the place until you figure out what to take and where to use it. In Being Her Darkest Friend, however, although that still applies, it feels a bit more natural.
The puzzles are mildly difficult, but you do get a sense of satisfaction whenever you proceed onward, deeper into the story. The only thing that might get to you, as with all games from this genres, is the slow-paced nature of it all. At times, the dialogue is a bit trivial and going through it is not all that enjoyable. Not to mention that if you click by mistake over a character, you have to re-read everything. But you can also fast forward by clicking anywhere. Still, it’s a bit annoying.
Looked at as a whole, Being Her Darkest Friend is an above average point and click when it comes to the visuals but the story makes it much better. It’s worth a shot if you’re into stories that have a bit of suspense and horror in them.
