Batla, miniature alien robots that had the idea of invading Earth but ended up beating each other instead. It’s an online multiplayer game in which the sole purpose is to come out on top in any of the several game modes and arenas that are available.
Batla, for a free-to-play title has very good graphics and well-polished effects. From a visuals point of view, you don’t have anything harsh to say about it except for maybe how the enemy robots look while moving around the arena. They seem kind of stiff, even for a robot.
The gameplay found in Batla is one that relies on the generic arena shooter. It’s fast-paced, there’s barely a dull moment, weapons come in several types and are well suited for gamers with varying play styles. Whether you’re the guns blazing or camping-sniper kind of guy, Batla has you covered.
Before you get to shoot it out on a Batla map, you have to wait a bit because the servers are rather empty. When you find a game, you instantly dive into the action because Batla has a Quake III kind of feel. However, it has none of its charm.
Despite its original look, Batla is very flat when it comes to the mood or atmosphere. The audio effects are good, some are excellent even, but it totally lacks any kind of incentive to keep you immersed into the game. After a half an hour or so, you just find yourself shooting at the enemy and probably without the slightest trace of joy.
Moreover, the game casts that dreaded pay-to-win shadow that, in this case, seems a bit too strong. That can lead to serious gameplay imbalance, and it can be felt right from your first few rounds. Either some players are good or have spent a good deal of cash for upgraded weapons. It just doesn’t feel right.
At this time, Batla is as good as much as it is bad, it’s right there between being an enjoyable experience and being another reason for you to rage uninstall. Either way, it’s still worth a shot.
