Awkward Dimensions Redux

Sometimes our view of the world does not align with reality, which is just fine as long as we don’t act based on it. Having your personal version of the world is a great way to avoid becoming a brainwashed individual, and it also makes for a less stressful life. Whenever we find it harder to imagine anything different, something like a movie or a video game can help a great deal.

Awkward Dimensions Redux is a first-person exploration game with puzzle elements and a very weird take on the concept of level design. In essence, the game is designed to take you out of your comfort zone and provide you with unusual perspectives, on top of the fact that it might cause a few nightmares if you concentrate too hard on some of the themes.

Each level features a different color theme and location, although sometimes the locations themselves do not make too much sense. There’s a lot of symbolism involved in the game, so you must pay attention to the concepts you are presented with. As for the gameplay, your only task is to keep walking and find the door that leads you to the next level.

Although the game presents you with the option to choose your level from the main menu, you can also skip the ones you do not understand yet with a simple click. The story might lose some of its meaning because of this, but frustration can cause you to stop playing entirely, so this is a much better alternative.

Lastly, the graphics are not exactly state-of-the-art, but they can be gorgeous every now and again. In fact, some of the landscapes can cause you to stop and ponder for a few minutes, while others are disturbing enough to make you shiver. The soundtrack works its magic in the background as well, featuring a variety of tracks that enhance the atmosphere.

All things considered, Awkward Dimensions Redux is not much of a game in the gameplay department, but it features a very nice exploration component. Most of the landscapes are quite memorable and thought-provoking.
