Rome Puzzle

Rome Puzzle is a match-3 game that takes you through a large number of levels which highlight five epochs of the once mighty Roman Empire. A nice touch to gameplay is that as you complete levels, you can purchase buildings and step by step build a representation of the empire.

Rome Puzzle offers the generic ‘swap tiles to match them with similar ones’ gameplay that is one of the simplest things you can do in a game. Add that to the nicely designed theme and a relaxed atmosphere and you have a rather nice product.

Each level you play will have a slightly different layout and will introduce new elements that increase difficulty. It’s a good touch since it cuts down on the severely repetitive gameplay with which this genre is ‘blessed’.

In Rome Puzzle, aside from bugs, coins, leaves and axes, you have a number of resources that need gathering. You obtain them by matching in each level and the more you get, the quicker you can build.

Constructing the buildings generates additional resources or tiles to match, so while you get a town to look at, you also increase the difficulty level of the game. It seems like a good trade and it certainly spices things up a bit. This doesn’t make Rome Puzzle a fantastic game, but it becomes slightly better thanks to it.

Rome Puzzle is a decent puzzle game. It looks good, gameplay is simple and easy to master and the building feature does make it a bit more interesting. It’s a good choice on a dull day.
