The team at Firaxis held a special event for its fans over the weekend and one of the highlights of the show was a special talk during which the co-directors of XCOM 2 talked about the new mechanics of the game and how they came up with the ideas that power it.

The footage includes a lot of details that gamers will find interesting and a look at never before seen content associated with the turn-based strategy title (the actual panel starts at around minute 7 of the video).

Jake Solomon, the creative director, Garth DeAngelis, lead producer, Ryan McFall, lead engineer, and Greg Foertsch, lead artist, explain how XCOM 2 will expand on the mechanics of the first title in the rebooted series.

The coming video game will take place in a version of the world where the aliens crushed the initial incarnation of the human defensive forces and created massive cities where the population is kept under control.

Firaxis is promising to deliver more varied maps, new character classes, new ways to attack alien positions and a range of powerful enemies that will challenge even experienced players.

XCOM 2 will be launched only on the PC on February 5 of 2016, with the release initially planned to arrive this year but delayed in order to make sure that the quality of the title was the one fans expect.
