The development team at Firaxis might not be very imaginative when it comes to the names it gives to enemies in the upcoming XCOM 2, but the newly revealed Shieldbearer for the Advent faction seems designed to introduce some interesting choices when it comes to the tactical battles.

The studio explains that the new character is a support unit that specializes on defensive because it uses a special armor designed to take more fire and can also offer a shield bonus for all other enemy units that are near him on the battlefield.

Firaxis adds, "Imagine the toughest threats the aliens have at their disposal, then imagine those threats with boosted defense - it’s not an ideal scenario, Commander. Upon meeting an ADVENT Shieldbearer, Central advises you focus all efforts to dispatch this unit as quickly as possible."

Advent represents the humans who are collaborating with the aliens in XCOM 2 and they will also employ stun lancers, classic troopers and officers that are able to call in reinforcements.

The new turn-based title is introducing a range of new enemies for gamers to deal with using the five new character classes that they will be able to use in their own squads.

The game will also introduce more strategic choices, improved maps, and a better AI.

XCOM 2 will be launched on February 5 of next year only on the PC.
