It's unclear for how long the service will be affected

The Xbox Live network is at the moment plagued by issues on both the Xbox One and the Xbox 360, and Microsoft is not yet ready to say when the issues might be eliminated and full functionality restored.

Major titles like Battlefield Hardline and FIFA 15 were the first ones to be impacted.

The official status page for the service explains that both gaming and social features are affected on the Xbox One home consoles, although it's unclear whether all titles on the device are experiencing trouble.

The music, video and TV streaming services on both the new platform and the older Xbox 360 are also affected at the moment.

The store is still live on both platforms.

The company states, "Thanks for being patient in the meantime, Xbox members! We’ll provide an update as soon as we have more information."

Both the Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network have been targeted by DDoS attacks earlier in the year, but the two companies are now working together in order to make sure that they improve their resilience.

Online services are increasingly important for both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, with users getting more content, both classic entertainment and video games, without resorting to a physical disk.
