Sony is going through a very successful period in the video game space, with the PlayStation 4 currently selling very well around the world and showing no sign of slowing down for the foreseeable future.

But the company does have a relative problem with the exclusive content, which might be solved in the coming months and years by a new crowdfunding platform called First Flight.

The new feature will allow Sony employees to pitch their ideas and get the money required to create make them real as quickly as possible.

The company has not said whether it plans to fund the most promising ideas on its own.

The First Flight concept is at the moment only offered in Japan but might be expanded for Europe and North America in the future.

Kazuo Hirai, president and chief executive officer of Sony, states, "Sony itself originated as a start-up, and through the Seed Acceleration Program we are challenging ourselves to return to our entrepreneurial roots. At Sony, we will continue to explore ways of delivering new, emotionally compelling experiences and enhanced customer value."

At the moment, the First Flight platform seems to have only been used for hardware but it might be a very good way of delivering a higher number of small video games for the PlayStation 4.
