Licensing issues and other problems could stop Microsoft

Microsoft Xbox boss Phil Spencer confirms that, while the backwards compatibility team promises to bring most if not all Xbox 360 titles to the Xbox One, various issues, including licensing ones, may prevent them from happening.

Microsoft surprised quite a lot of fans when it revealed at E3 2015 last month that it would bring backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games to the Xbox One later this fall.

Since then, all sorts of games have been confirmed to arrive to the Xbox One after first making their debut on the Xbox 360 many years ago.

Unfortunately, while Microsoft wants to bring most of the classic titles to the Xbox One, some issues could keep its backwards compatibility team from achieving this.

According to Xbox head Phil Spencer, licensing issues are proving to be quite tricky, especially when talking about racing titles, which need not only the rights for their songs but also for their vehicles.

If these rights can't be extended to the new platform, Microsoft may not be legally allowed to re-release the titles onto its new platform.

Bear in mind that, given the corporation's influence, some of these issues could be worked out, so expect to see and hear more about the Xbox 360 titles coming to Xbox One via backwards compatibility in the following months.
