Video game developer Platinum Games and publisher Microsoft are using the press conference at Gamescom 2015 to deliver the first gameplay footage taken from the new Scalebound, featuring some impressive dragon-based action.

Gamers can take a look at the way they will be able to move around the world and battle their enemies using a mix of mechanics that bear some resemblance to Dragon Hunter.

Hideki Kamiya is leading the development process for the title, which is designed to focus on the complex combat systems that Platinum Games is known to create.

Statements from Microsoft executives have suggested that an open-world structure will be used and that some role-playing elements will be included, although limited details have been offered so far.

Scalebound will really focus on the link between the player and the dragons that populate the world, and it seems that at some point they can be recruited as companions.

The team will also use the power of the Xbox One and its associated cloud to make sure that the graphics are impressive and that there are almost no limits placed on how the player can approach a situation.

Scalebound is set to be offered only on the Xbox One during next year.
