The team at Sony in charge of the PlayStation Network is announcing that it is at the moment delaying the maintenance period for the service which was supposed to take place today, although no information on the reason has been offered.

The announcement comes from the official support Twitter account of the company and says that the delay is indefinite at the moment and that users will get more information on the new date and time when one is chosen.

Sony has not said what it plans to tweak for the core features of PlayStation Network, but given that it has delayed the maintenance, it might be something significant.

On Wednesday, August 19, the multiplayer beta period for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is set to start, and some gamers are worried that PSN will be down at the most inopportune time.

Sony has a long history of offering limited details about the changes that it is making to the PlayStation Network, with the community often only learning about new services once they are actually deployed.

Rumors have been recently talking about an all-new 3.0 firmware for the PlayStation 4 which is already in testing and is designed to introduce more streaming options and other new features.

Sony might be getting ready to improve the PSN in order to make it easier to implement all the changes.
