Until then, the tech will be adopted by gamers

The founder of the company that is developing the Oculus Rift virtual reality solution believes that it will take about two years before the technology is mature enough and established in order to move towards the mainstream.

For that period, gamers and enthusiasts will be the kind of people interested in the VR experience and will find new ways to make it appealing to larger audiences.

Luckey is quoted by Gamasutra as saying that "I’m the most optimistic guy about VR out there. I have crazy visions of what we’ll be doing in the future. But it’s not going to reach hundreds of millions of people in the next three years."

The Oculus Rift is set to be introduced in its consumer version in early 2016, and gamers who get it will also receive an Xbox One controller, a special adapter for the PC and the ability to stream video games from the Microsoft home console to Windows 10 machines.

So far, no exact date and no price point for the platform have been revealed.

The Oculus Rift is only part of the coming virtual reality revolution, which also includes the Vive, a device created by Valve and HTC that should arrive before the end of the year, Project Morpheus, specifically designed for the PS4, and several other devices with a smaller appeal.
