The team working on the Oculus Rift virtual reality solution is announcing that it is acquiring a company called Pebbles Interfaces, a leader in the field of depth sensing technology and computer vision.

It seems that the two will work together in order to create new ways for users of the coming VR headset to interact with the worlds they will explore.

Interaction, tracking and virtual reality tech will be the focus of the developers at Pebbles who are being integrated into the Oculus Rift team.

Nadav Grossinger, CTO of Pebbles Interfaces, states in the announcement, "Through micro-optics and computer vision, we hope to improve the information that can be extracted from optical sensors, which will help take virtual reality to the next level."

The Oculus Rift managed to attract a lot of support from gamers before it was bought by Facebook and has so far delivered headsets that developers can get access to, each of them integrating better virtual reality tech.

A consumer version is supposed to be launched during the first quarter of next year, but so far no exact date and no price have been announced.

The Oculus Rift will have to deal with competition from the Vive, which Valve and HTC are working on, Project Morpheus for the PlayStation 4, and other solutions from smaller VR companies.
