The August 2015 sales survey from research firm NPD Group confirms that, once again, the PlayStation 4 has beaten the Xbox One in terms of hardware sales throughout the territory of the US. In terms of games, Madden NFL 16 reigns supreme, followed by Minecraft and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.

The games industry is doing pretty well nowadays after some relatively lackluster performances in recent years. The release of the PS4 and Xbox One has certainly boosted hardware sales while all sorts of popular titles have managed to make a lasting impression on customers.

Now, after tallying all the data gathered from US retail outlets during the month of August 2015, the NPD Group confirms, via NeoGAF, that, in terms of hardware, the winning streak of Sony's PS4 continues in front of Microsoft's Xbox One.

In terms of video games, things have slowed down a bit due to the lack of major headline releases. Even so, Madden NFL 16 has earned the top spot, followed by Minecraft for consoles, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition for Xbox One, as well as Grand Theft Auto 5.

Other top-selling games include Lego: Jurassic World, Rare Replay, Until Dawn, the Call of Duty: Black Ops Combo pack, Batman: Arkham Knight, and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

No exact figures have been offered, so expect some statements from Sony and Microsoft soon enough.
