Electronic Arts confirms that it wants to release a brand new game in the Battlefield series next year, once Star Wars Battlefront players get to enjoy the upcoming shooter for a sufficient amount of time.

EA has always had a reputation for relying on sequels and pumping out new franchise installments as soon as possible, but while it's certainly decreased this trend and allowed for its developers to have extra time to polish their titles, it still focuses a lot on its major series.

Now, in order to once again show just how important the Battlefield franchise is, the large publisher confirms during its financial briefing that a brand new title in the shooter saga is on track for a launch in 2016.

According to EA, via GameSpot, once players get enough of the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront, which launches this November, it will be ready with a major Battlefield release.

No other details have been mentioned, but according to previous rumors, it seems that the game will bring the focus back to military conflicts, after this year's Battlefield Hardline emphasized cops vs. criminals.

Franchise developer DICE is also working on the project, while finishing up Battlefront and Mirror's Edge Catalyst, which is also set to debut in 2016.
