Pocket edition, and then Xbox One or 360 players will join

Mojang confirms that the recently released Minecraft Windows 10 edition is the first step to creating a cross-platform community of players, bringing in Pocket Edition users soon, and then Xbox One or Xbox 360 players.

Minecraft may have started out life as PC game, but thanks to the porting efforts from 4J Studios, the title is a massive hit across consoles like Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, or PS Vita, as well as on mobile smartphones or tablets, via the Pocket Edition.

With the recent release of the Windows 10 operating, Mojang and Microsoft have just provided us with the Minecraft Windows 10 edition, which replaces the main Java version with one that's built in the C++ programming language.

Besides offering new features, like the ability to use natively controllers, touchscreen mechanics, not to mention the mouse and keyboard, Minecraft's new version also takes steps to enable cross-platform play.

According to Mojang CEO Jonas Martensson, who talks with IGN at Gamescom 2015, soon enough Windows 10 users will get to play alongside Pocket Edition fans via cross-platform play.

Soon after that, there are plans to let them play right alongside Xbox One and Xbox 360 users. It's unclear, however, if this cross-platform feature will also allow PS4, PS3, or PS Vita users to participate.
