The team at Mojang in charge of Minecraft is announcing that, for the coming movie based on the video game, it has chosen to work with Rob McElhenney, who is best known for his work on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

The official site does not offer any other information on the coming project, like when it will be shot or what kind of story it will deliver.

Rob McElhenney is a creator, producer and actor on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and he has already been working with Mojang, appearing at the recent Minecon in London.

Minecraft was acquired by Microsoft in late 2014, and the company seems determined to push the franchise into some interesting new directions.

Mojang is also working with Telltale Games to create a new Story mode episodic experience based on the title, which will feature a main character voiced by Patton Oswald.

At the same time, regular updates are being delivered for all versions of the game and a special edition was announced for the coming Windows 10 operating system, while the title was also used to demo the HoloLens augmented reality concept.

Mojang has also said that it wants for Minecraft to offer a unified experience on all platforms at some point in the future.
