Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has just received actual real-world prices for its microtransactions, thanks to early listings on the PlayStation Network. The Mother Base Coins can be purchased in five different packs and the pricing is quite steep.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is eagerly awaited by millions of franchise fans from all around the world, but in recent months a controversy appeared around its Forward Operations Base multiplayer mode.

In the experience, players can expand their Mother Base to new zones. While the initial areas are free of charge, according to Konami, others can be unlocked only by paying MB Coins.

Konami emphasized that the coins can be obtained during regular gameplay, but also through microtransactions by paying real-world money.

The PSN has been updated with the premium MB Coins add-ons, via Metal-Gear, and the initial impressions are not good.

The microtransactions begin at $1.65 (€1.47) for 100 coins and reach $79.95 (€71.38) for 6,000 coins.

Things get worse when you compare this to the game's requirements of MB Coins. According to Gamescom attendees who got to play the game earlier this month, opening a new FOB in premium areas requires around 1600 MB Coins.

As of yet, it's still unclear how many coins you can get from playing the story mode missions, although answers will arrive tomorrow, when the game launches worldwide.
