Mafia 3 is finally official, as 2K Games' UK division confirms that the game will be revealed to the world with an announcement trailer on August 5 at 8am ET/1pm BST.

Mafia 3 has been rumored to arrive for quite some time now as franchise developer 2K Czech had apparently been working on the open-world project ever since delivering Mafia 2 back in 2010.

Unfortunately, parent company 2K Games decided to close down the studio and moved the actual project to one of its US-based teams. Since then, it's been radio silence, although various rumors and leaks have appeared from time to time.

Now, 2K Games' UK division confirms via Twitter that Mafia 3 is official and that it will get an announcement trailer on August 5 at a8am ET/1pm BST.

It's unclear if actual gameplay will be presented at that time but at least the teaser artwork, available above, shows some interesting sequences in a swamp of sorts, not to mention older cars and four characters.

Expect to hear some official confirmation next week or, if we're lucky, some more leaks and rumors in the following days, ahead of the actual announcement. It's also possible that Mafia 3 will be available for hands-on time at Gamescom 2015 next week.
