A new open world Mafia game might finally be revealed

Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of publisher 2K Games, has begun registering several website domains relating to Mafia 3, hinting at an upcoming announcement of the long-awaited game.

The Mafia series has been around for quite some time, with the original delighting millions back in 2002. The full-fledged sequel finally arrived in 2010, and since then, things have been quite murky, as original developer 2K Czech was shut down and 2K apparently moved the series to its U.S.-based teams.

Now, AGB spots some interesting web domain registrations from Take-Two Interactive, the company behind 2K Games, which published all the Mafia titles so far.

These include variations on the Mafia 3 title and cover most bases regarding syntax and pronunciation.

While 2K Games is silent on the actual website registration process, these were made last week and hint to an upcoming announcement that could be made either in the following weeks or in August at Gamescom 2015, the large European gaming conference.

It's a safe bet that Mafia 3 will appear on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, although a release on last-gen devices, like PS3 or Xbox 360, could also be on the cards, depending on whether or not 2K finds teams willing to work on it.
