The 3DS handheld has managed to get a solid boost in sales during the past week and has moved from 28,279 units delivered to fans to close to 49,000, cementing its place at the top of the hardware sales chart in Japan.

The PlayStation 4 has also improved its own performance during the week that ran from August 24 to August 30, with the Sony home console managing to move 18,539 devices, up from 14,495.

According to Media Create data quoted by NeoGAF, the PlayStation Vita handheld has seen its sales all but unchanged from the previous week at 12,692.

The Wii U home console from Nintendo continues to be less impressive than the company would want it to be and has only managed to boost its own sales by a few hundred units to reach 11,781.

The PlayStation 3 might be a very old device, but it was still able to move 2,571 units to gamers in one week, much more than the Xbox One, which stands at 168.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King from Square Enix for the 3DS is the new entry that sits at the top of the software chart in Japan, able to sell more than 584,000 copies during its debut week.

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer from Nintendo is in second place, and the final position on the podium belongs to Yo-Kai Watch Busters: Red Cat Team / White Dog Squad.

The rest of the top ten includes Dragon's Dogma Online, Splatoon, Until Dawn, TV Anime Idolm@ster: Cinderella Girls G4U! Pack Vol.4, Famicom Remix Best Choice, Rhythm Heaven: The Best+, and Super Robot Wars BX.
