Right at the end of the Xbox at Gamescom 2015 press event, Microsoft and its 343 Industries studio have made a blockbuster announcement, in the form of Halo Wars 2, the new strategy experience that will debut for Windows 10 PCs and Xbox One in 2016.

The Halo series has been around for quite some time, and while it is mainly a first-person shooter franchise, hardcore fans still remember the spinoff experiences, including Halo Wars, a real-time strategy title that appeared for the Xbox 360 many years ago.

The title didn't exactly live up to expectations, despite coming from RTS veterans that worked on the Age of Empires franchise.

Now, however, it seems that Microsoft and 343 Industries want to bring back the spinoff series and have partnered with Total War developer The Creative Assembly for Halo Wars 2.

The announcement, made through a short but sweet cinematic video, confirms a pretty big confrontation with old enemies.

What's more, unlike the original, Halo Wars 2 will arrive on the Xbox One as well as on Windows 10 PCs. A loose 2016 release period was mentioned, so it's unclear when exactly the project might surface on the two platforms. You can expect to hear more as we get closer to the new year.
