Gears of War Ultimate Edition developer The Coalition confirms that the upcoming Xbox One remake will feature split-screen for its story campaign. The next entry in the series, Gears 4, is unclear on that issue, however.

Lately, Xbox One users have been quite outraged over the lack of split-screen in Halo 5: Guardians.

Now, in order to avoid any such controversies, Gears of War Ultimate Edition developer The Coalition confirms via Stevivor that the upcoming Xbox One title will retain the split-screen mode for its story campaign. As such, those who want to go through the plot playing as Marcus and Dom can easily do so on the Xbox One, just like in the original that launched for the Xbox 360 many years ago.

Unfortunately, the studio can't say anything about the upcoming Gears of War 4 title in regards to split-screen. Creative Director Chuck Osieja mentions only that the studio is focusing on the smooth release of Ultimate Edition, and will then move to Gears 4.

At E3 2015, the all-new Xbox One entry in the series received a short but sweet gameplay demonstration in which two new characters engaged in a series of firefights, so split-screen is a possibility.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition launches at the end of August on Xbox One.
