Playing Europa Universalis IV and Metal Gear Solid V

After returning from a holiday in Amsterdam, I became a little obsessed with the history of the Netherlands, and because I am a gamer, this has resulted in a lot of time spent in Europa Universalis IV, trying to make the country one of the dominating powers of the game.

The development team at Paradox might have simulated historical forces a little too well as I found that I was unable to face either Great Britain or France with the small but ambitious Dutch so I turned to a proxy to try and achieve the same aims.

I am now playing as Burgundy using the earlier available start date, which has Holland in a personal union and can integrate it after about 50 years, and I might try to create the Netherlands using this country as a base.

Europa Universalis IV is fascinating because it offers a very solid historical simulation which tends to create a believable situation on the continent but also gives the player a lot of choices when it comes to how they run their own country.

I might also be persuaded to give Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which has been getting some glowing coverage from sources that I trust, although I might initially need to try and get a tighter grip on the story of the series, which I never got into.
