The new and improved Kinect that will be sold alongside the Xbox One has a custom connector, which means that it can't be used on the PC, like the current sensor.

Instead, Microsoft has opened up a special developer program for Kinect on Windows, offering not one, but two sensors and a variety of support material for 399 USD/EUR.

The new and improved Kinect was showcased to the world last month, and Microsoft promised that it will share details about the Kinect for Windows Software Development Kit soon.

Now, the company has confirmed that the Kinect sensor for the Xbox One can't be connected to a PC due to its custom jack.

As such, those who want to use the new Kinect on a Windows PC must enlist in a new developer program that. For just 399 USD/EUR, they will receive a pre-release alpha sensor, a final sensor, access to all API and sample documentation, access to the early SDK files, and support with the Kinect for Windows engineering team.

There are a limited number of spots, according to Microsoft's website, so those interested might want to reserve their place in the dev program.
