The Xbox One architecture is more challenging, 1080p will be hit once devs get used to it

Sony's PlayStation 4 is reportedly just a teensy bit more powerful than Microsoft's next-gen computer entertainment system, the Xbox One, and this leads to games running at a slightly increased resolution on the PS4 than they do on the XBO.

The difference is not that big and hardly noticeable with the naked eye, but the mere fact that it exists has polarized the gaming community yet again. Fortunately, the disparity in resolutions will soon die down, as, according to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt RED, it's just a matter of time until devs get used to the Xbox's more challenging architecture.

"I think in the longer run everything is going to be on both platforms running at 1080p. It's just taking developers longer to do it than they expected because the architecture is a little more challenging on the Xbox One," John Mamais of CD Projekt RED said during an interview with Eurogamer.

"We anticipate being able to do 1080p on PS4 a little bit easier than on the Xbox, it's just a slightly more powerful machine," he explained.

This was something that was bound to happen sooner or later, as both systems matured and, most importantly, developers got a little more familiar with their inner workings.

It was already hinted that the era of resolution imparity was about to come to an end in the near future, when Bungie revealed that their upcoming online first-person shooter, Destiny, would run at 1080p on the Xbox One, as it does on the PlayStation 4.
