Microsoft has confirmed that its next-generation Xbox One console won't be backwards compatible and even emphasized that there aren't any plans to enable it to play games made for the Xbox 360.

Ahead of Microsoft's Xbox One reveal yesterday, many rumors appeared about the next-gen console's backwards compatibility.

Now, the company has officially confirmed in a Q&A on its website that the Xbox One isn't backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games.

According to the company, the console was designed to play a new generation of games and its architecture prevents it from running Xbox 360 titles.

There are no plans to change this, as Microsoft just confirms that it will continue to invest in the Xbox 360 with fresh games and applications.

Sony's PlayStation 4 can't play PS3 games but Sony did hint that through the Gaikai cloud streaming service it could allow PS4 owners to play titles for the older console.
