Microsoft announces that it is working on an original documentary series for the Xbox One home console, which will be launched in 2014 and will debut with an episode that focuses on the video game crash of 1983, Atari and a landfill that's occupied by thousands of copies of the ET video game.

Simon Chinn, who has produced Searching for Sugar Man and Man on a Wire, and Jonathan Chinn are developing the documentary series.

Nancy Tellem, the president of Xbox Entertainment Studios, is quoted by AllGamesBeta as saying that, "These stories will expose how the digital revolution created a global democracy of information, entertainment and commerce, and how it impacts our lives every day."

The Atari and ET episode will be directed by Zak Penn, best known for X-Men 2, Avengers and Incident at Loch Ness and will feature a full excavation of the landfill and details about the video game crash of 1983.
