Microsoft announces that it is increasing the price of Xbox One exclusive digital video games for the United Kingdom market by 5 British pounds, which is the equivalent of 8.20 dollars (5.4 Euro).

An e-mail from the company quoted by Engadget explains that, “pricing for select digital content in some markets has changed since launch. Digital content pricing is subject to change and we may occasionally offer various deals or promotions. Ultimately pricing and promotions will vary by region.”

It’s unclear whether price increases are also being planned for other markets and what the main reason that will shape future changes is.

Sony has also set the price of digital games in the United Kingdom for the PlayStation 4 higher than gamers were expecting and has since reduced them by a few pounds as a reaction.

Most players expect digital-only releases to be much cheaper than retail packages, but this is not yet the case on next-gen consoles.
