Microsoft revealed a few more official details about the Xbox One's controversial 24-hour Internet check.

The company confirmed that the console will only transfer a few kilobytes of data and that it can be done even by tethering the online connection of a smartphone to the console.

The Xbox One may not require a permanent Internet connection in theory but, in practice, the console needs to go online every 24 hours if owners want to actually play their games.

This online check, however, won't consume huge amounts of data, as Microsoft's Phil Spencer told GameInformer that the traffic consists of "kilobytes, not megabytes."

What's more, Phil Harrison also explained to The Telegraph that the online check can even be done via a tethered connection from a mobile phone, in case the main one is down or unavailable.
