Xbox Live Use Dominated by Media, Not Video Games

Users have spent more time on the service than during last year

Video game hardware developer Microsoft has announced that the Xbox Live service for its home console has seen more users use it for video and music than playing video games, which signals a wider shift in the user base.

For a long time the company stated that it wanted to make the Xbox 360 more of an entertainment hub rather than simply a gaming system.

Yusuf Mehdi, the senior vice president at the Interactive Entertainment Division from Microsoft, stated, “What we're seeing is that people are turning on the Xbox to play games and then keeping it on afterwards to get other types of entertainment.”

The company has revealed that 84 hours are used each month in Xbox Live playing online games and getting other content, which is 30 percent more than at the same time last year.

For comparison purposes, the average television user in the United States spends 150 hours watching TV during a month.
