The service is going through a serious outage

The Xbox Live service from Microsoft is down today, April 18, worldwide, as both Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners are reporting the inability to manage or interact with their friends, as well as sending text messages or accessing applications like Netflix or YouTube, not to mention signing into their accounts.

Microsoft has always prided itself on the dependability of its Xbox Live online service, as the money it gets from the premium Xbox Live Gold subscription is spent on improving the servers and making sure that it remains as stable as possible.

Even so, in recent times there have been quite a few offline periods, and today, April 18, it seems that such a downtime is once again present.

Microsoft confirms on the Xbox Live Status page that lots of different aspects of the service are limited or unavailable.

First up, Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners are unable to sign into their accounts. What's more, posting on the official forums is also unavailable, while entertainment applications like Netflix and YouTube can't be used by fans.

The social aspects of the two consoles, from managing and interacting with your friends list to sending text messages, are also affected by this outage.

Microsoft confirms that it's investigating the problems but no solution is in sight just yet.
