The Xbox 720, the next-generation console currently in development at Microsoft, might feature a special online service that relies on peer-to-peer downloads, at least judging by the fact that Microsoft has just acquired Pando, a company specializing in this sort of business.

The next Xbox is going to be revealed in the near future and rumors about the console and its possible features have increased in numbers over the last few months.

Now, Israeli website Calcalist, via NeoSeeker, reports that Microsoft has just acquired Pando, a company that specializes in peer-to-peer downloads and is already popular among League of Legends users.

The website claims that Microsoft paid $11 million (€8.4 million) and might employ Pando's technology in devising a special peer-to-peer, bittorrent-like transfer service that can be used by the Xbox 720 to speed up large game downloads.

As of yet, however, Microsoft hasn't commented on this report.
