The console apparently still requires a permanent online connection

The Xbox 720 will need a mandatory Internet connection to use, according to another report, but this requirement isn't as "draconian" as it sounds, although no reasoning is given to back up the claim.

Plenty of Xbox 360 owners were up in arms after a special report claimed that the next-generation console, the oft-rumored Xbox 720, requires a constant Internet connection to actually be used and, if the connection drops, the device would suspend an app or game until it comes back on.

Since then, new reports surfaced that claimed the constant connection wasn't required, but now a new rumor has appeared via tech blogger Paul Thurrott, who wrote on WindowsITPro that the requirement is still in place on the next gen console.

He does mention, however, that it won't be as draconian as some reports have said, so people should wait and see the official details before they make a decision about buying the new console.

Microsoft confirmed that it's going to present the next Xbox on May 21.
