The NPD Group has released preliminary sales estimates for the North American market during the month of November and, despite the high profile launch of the Wii U from Nintendo, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft was the big winner.

The official NPD Group list, as quoted by GoNintendo, reads:

Xbox 360 – 1.4 million, a 17 percent drop PlayStation 3 – 700,000 units, a drop of 22% Wii U - 450,000 3DS - 440,000, a decline of 45 percent Wii - 435,000, a drop of more than 50 percent DS - 375,000 units PlayStation Vita - 190,000

The overall consoles sales totaled up to more than 4 million during November, which is a slight decline when compared to the same month in 2011.

Analysts expected to see the launch of the Wii U having a positive impact on the industry.
