Video game developer Firaxis and publisher 2K Games are using the E3 2015 event to deliver a first look at the gameplay of the coming XCOM 2, with gamers able to see some of the new character classes battling some of the powerful enemies that will be introduced in the turn-based strategy sequel.

IGN has managed to get the footage from the two companies, which shows the improved graphics and the smoother gameplay, and there are five minutes of details for fans to pour over.

The rest of the time is occupied by an interview with XCOM 2 producer Garth DeAngelis, who explains the various new features that are being shown and how the team created them.

XCOM 2 takes place twenty years after the events of the first title, a period in which the aliens have managed to extend their control over Earth, creating a government that works with them to dominate the population.

Firaxis has said that the sequel is designed to use procedurally-generated levels, to add more variety to the combat sequences and to deliver more variety for the mission objectives and the ways they can be tackled.

XCOM 2 will be launched only on the PC at some point in November.
