World of Warcraft Now Has 9.6 Million Subscribers, a Drop of 400,000

Mists of Pandaria isn't keeping players hooked on the online game

World of Warcraft continues to see its number of subscribers dwindle, as publisher Activision Blizzard has just confirmed that, as of December 31, 2012, around 9.6 million players still have an active subscriptions.

World of Warcraft is still one of the most popular subscription-based online games out there but, over the years, the extremely successful game saw more and more players deactivate their memberships.

After confirming that 10 million subscribers play World of Warcraft shortly after the release of the Mists of Pandaria last year, Activision Blizzard has revealed, via CVG, that as of December 31, 2012, around 9.6 million players are still active.

While it's quite a drop in terms of subscribers, Activision emphasizes that World of Warcraft remains the number-one subscription-based MMORPG out there and that its expansion, Mists of Pandaria, was the third best-selling PC game in both North America and Europe.
