The much-teased new Wolfenstein video game is being officially revealed by publisher Bethesda, with the subtitle The New Order, as a first-person shooter that will be launched on the PC, the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and next-generation consoles during the fourth quarter of the year.

The game is set to take place in the 1960s in Europe, which has been conquered by victorious Nazis after World War II.

In Wolfenstein: The New Order, gamers will launch an impossible attack on their strongholds, using super weapons that seem to imply some sort of alien involvement, as shown in the Gamespot video.

Development of Wolfenstein: The New Order is being handled by MachineGames, a studio owned by Bethesda and which was established by veterans from Starbreeze Studios.

Jens Matthies, creative director at MachineGames, states, “As fans of the series, working on this game is an honor, and our team is driven to create an unforgettable action-adventure experience that will make FPS fans proud.”
