The development team at NCSoft working on WildStar says that at some point in the fall it plans to move the MMO to a free-to-play business model, even if it wants to make sure that the quality of the experience does not decrease.

PC Gamer quotes a developer, Mike Donatelli, who says that pressure from potential gamers is the main reason for the move.

He adds, "When we came out we had a plan in our head, and it became readily apparent that the studio that had been working so hard, so long to make Wildstar was not the same studio we needed to… do all this post-launch stuff."

Quarterly updates are still planned for WildStar and gamers can look forward to tweaks to all the core mechanics.

A new currency will be introduced to the MMO, designed to allow interested gamers to pick up cosmetic and convenience items and a loyalty program is also in development, with free rewards delivered for those who have subscribed since launch.

WildStar has been out for less than one year and is designed to offer an experience that mixes the traditional mechanics of a classic multiplayer experience with a new universe that blends fantasy and science fiction elements in new ways.
